Rubber diaphragm filter press, also known as membrane filter press, English membrane filter, as the name suggests, its special feature is the "membrane", through the diaphragm bulging and contraction, pressing the material in the chamber of the filter plate, so that the liquid phase of the material is extruded through the filter cloth, and the solid phase is left on the filter cloth. In an automated plant, we can control the pressure and duration of the diaphragm to change the degree of material being squeezed, so the diaphragm filter press is more flexible than other forms of filtration.

The rubber plate is made of chloroprene rubber (DuPont/Chongqing Longevity), which is modified by mixing and moulded by high-pressure composite vulcanization with steel skeleton. The sealing performance of the filter plate is good, the working filtration pressure is up to 1.2MPa, the water content of the mud cake is low, and the operating environment is good; the filter plate has high strength and long service life, and the temperature resistance of the filter plate is up to 120℃; the steel skeleton can be recycled for many times, and the comprehensive maintenance cost is low. The rubber diaphragm filter press is similar in appearance to an ordinary plate and frame filter, and its frame system serves a similar purpose: to provide support for the hydraulic system and the filter plate system.
In the installation process of diaphragm filter press, the level measurement of the frame system is very important, because the filter plate group is placed on the side rails on both sides, the space inside the filter plate after merging to form a container for the material to be filtered, if the frame front and back or left and right is not in the range of the level requirement (generally within ±3mm), the material level inside the container is not horizontal, it will lead to the decline of the output of the filter in the future production, the cake is not uniform, it is difficult to drop the cake, liquid phase yield decline and other phenomena.

There are usually four types of filter plates in a diaphragm filter press, namely, head plate, tail plate, membrane plate and chamber plate. The filter cloth will also correspond to the above four types of filter plates. The arrangement of filter plates is as follows: head plate > (membrane plate + chamber plate)*n > membrane plate > tail plate.
According to the different filtration media, different operating pressure and temperature, the choice of material for filter plate filter cloth will be different. In the process conditions of oil and grease fractionation, in addition to the usual pressure expansion, non-permeable properties, but also must be oil-resistant, edible grade, used for palm oil filter press diaphragm material can usually be selected: nitrile rubber (NBR), polypropylene (PP), thermoplastic rubber (TPE).
The internal space of the membrane plate can be used to input the extrusion medium to make the "membrane" bulge, the extrusion medium can be the extraction of liquid oil, can also be water, compressed air and other media, usually using the extraction of liquid oil products as the extrusion of oil, to avoid the membrane perforation caused by the contamination of the product.
According to the different pressure of the diaphragm, the diaphragm will have different specifications. Common palm oil separation and extrusion pressure is 0.7~0.8Mpa, the selected membrane needs to withstand 1.5Mpa. Other specifications such as 3Mpa membrane is used for palm kernel oil separation, and the production of special fats and oils.

1. Feeding: The palm oil slurry to be separated by cooling and crystallisation is pumped from the crystallisation tank into the inlet of the filter plate, the slurry fills the filter chamber, the palm liquid oil is filtered through the filter cloth, and the palm stearin is retained by the filter cloth. In order to ensure that the slurry can fill the chamber between the filter plate, the formation of a uniform cake, this step needs to be the first to close the outlet valve of the lower part of the filter plate, through the sight glass to observe the upper part of the filter plate liquid oil overflow from the liquid oil outlet before opening the lower part of the outlet valve. Usually under the condition of automated factory, this function can be realised by setting the delayed opening of the valve.
2. Filtration: when the feed is completed, the liquid and oil related valves are opened, then the filtration stage is entered. Filtration when the filter cloth retains the solid phase, the length of the filtration time with the slurry of the solid phase content of the number of changes in the end of the filtration stage to the oil pressure to reach a certain value depending on (usually less than or equal to 0.25Mpa). Feeding and filtering speed should not be too fast, through the feed pump frequency control, the pressure change should be stepped up. Otherwise the oil and filter plate filter cloth friction, the formation of a large number of static electricity, damage to the filter plate.
3. Extrusion: When the filtration feed pump stops, it enters the extrusion stage. The membrane plate starts to input extruded material, the membrane plate expands and squeezes the filter cake, and the filtrate is separated from the filter cake. When the extruded material is fed, the speed should not be too fast, so as to facilitate the discharge of air inside the membrane plate and avoid local pressure and deformation of the membrane plate. Extruded material feeding speed should also be stepped up, and set the "hold" time, to give the liquid oil from the filter cake separation time. Extrusion stage to reach a certain pressure setting value to the end of the ordinary dry extraction process is usually set at about 0.8Mpa.
4. Blowing off the cake: after the extrusion is completed, the extruded material feed stops, and the pressure is gradually relieved to about 0.3Mpa, then the oil inlet pipeline and the liquid oil pipeline will start to be blown. The oil in the inlet line is not filtered and extruded, and will be blown back to the gross oil tank by compressed air. The oil in the liquid oil line is finished and is blown to the liquid oil tank. After blowing, continue to relieve pressure, to 0Mpa, the filter press reminds to open the unloading of the cake begins. Solid phase hard grease falls into the hard grease tank below with the opening of the filter plate.
